Plastic bag free NSW

Plastic bag free NSW

Australians use nearly 4 billion plastic bags every year, countless millions of which end up landfilled or littered, polluting communities and the environment. Many of these end up in the ocean, contributing to the 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals killed each year by plastic pollution.

The time is NOW - with tremendous support in industry, government and among the public, it's time for NSW to commit to a cleaner tomorrow by banning single-use plastic bags, following the successful examples set by South Australia, the Northern Territory, the ACT, Tasmania, and states and countries around the world.

A great many of these end up in the ocean, contributing to the deaths of 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals each year, along with a tremendous and expensive strain on resources and waste collection.

This Thursday, 13th August, Parliament will debate our petition signed by 12,472 voters. Call on your MP to support a ban on plastic bags and urge Environment Minister Mark Speakman to support the petition to ban the bag.

Following statewide actions in support of a ban, and with growing support in industry, government and the community, it's time for NSW to commit to a cleaner tomorrow by banning single-use plastic bags, joining South Australia, the Northern Territory, the ACT, Tasmania, and states and countries around the world.

With Queensland also investigating a ban – we could get both states taking action. The time is NOW - if they hear from enough of us, they will have no choice but to act.
